This Thursday evening we will gather to dance with the Torahs as we celebrate the end of the annual cycle of Torah reading. After seven hakafot (rounds of dancing) honoring different segments of the community, stick around to build your own ice cream sundae! Feel free to bring a beverage to share and make sure to wear your comfortable dancing shoes!
Friday morning, as we read the very end of the Torah and begin reading again from the beginning, we are blessed to be able to honor two very special people in the Beth Sholom community. Alvin Notowich will be honored with Chattan Torah, and Alayne Shoenfeld will be honored with Kallat Bereshit. See below on why we feel so grateful to Alvin and Alayne for their dedication to Beth Sholom Synagogue, and please join us on Friday morning to honor them.
------------------ On any given Shabbat you will find Alayne in "her seat" swaying to the rhythm of the service, calling someone up for an Aliyah, or seeing to the order of the service as the Gabbait haGedolah. Out of her love for our community and her desire to see it thrive, Alayne was among the first to be a part of ‘Create a Jewish Legacy’ for Beth Sholom. In the days before e-mail, Alayne created our newsletter, the Kol Sholom. She worked on publicity for the synagogue and is currently chair of the Ritual Committee. Alayne is a member of the Tikkun Olam Committee and a regular attendee at Lunch and Learn. Every year she participates in the Coleman gift effort, helping the kids pick out a gift for their parents or grandparents, and then helping them wrap it. Alayne is a very special part of our community and we are thrilled to honor her.
If we ever need help making a minyan, Alvin Notowich is the person to call. He is always willing to give of himself in order to make this community as strong as possible. A past president of Beth Sholom, Alvin is a member of Men's Club and served on the Membership Committee. Many of our B’nai Mitzvah students develop a close relationship with Alvin through their months of preparation under Alvin’s guidance as he volunteers to teach them Haftarah. Additionally, Alvin ensures that we have haftarah readers every Shabbat. Alvin is a ‘Create your Jewish Legacy’ participant along with his wife Marcia, as they are committed to Beth Sholom having a strong future for all of our children. They are always willing to do their part going above and beyond to support our shul by contributing to various fundraisers. We are grateful to for this opportunity to honor Alvin for all he does to lift up the Beth Sholom community.
